We will notify the Social Security Administration that there has been a death in your family immediately after the arrangements have been made.  After we have done this most claims can be made by  telephone or by the mail.  The following page will explain the procedures for doing this.

To apply for any benefits, you must call.  The Social Security office will not contact you.

Available Benefits

  • A one-time benefit of $255.00
        If....there is a surviving spouse or dependent child.
  • Disabled widow's benefits (Age 50-60)
        Proof of disability must be provided
  • Mother of children under age 16
  • Dependent children
  • Disabled children
  • Divorced but married for 10 years or more

If it is necessary to go to the Social Security office, remember that they work on a firs come, first served basis.  Make sure that you take a number when you arrive at the office.

LIST OF INFORMATION THAT YOU MUST PROVIDE TO SOCIAL SECURITY:

  1. Death Certificate (Not required for all benefits)
  2. Social Security numbers (Both your and your spouse's)
  3. Date and place of marriage or marriages       (Take your marriage certificate if you have it)
  4. Military - dates of entry and discharge after 1939, also branch of service
  5. Date and place of birth of deceased
  6. If surviving children benefits apply:
        Dates of birth of children
        Social Security numbers of children
        Birth certificates of children
