Obituary for Bill Slaven

Willie Richard “Bill” Slaven age 87 years, 8 months, and 17 days, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022 in Lexington, Kentucky and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 10, 2022 at 7:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Gerald Mullins and Bro. Scott Corder officiating. Burial was in the Barrenfork Cemetery.

He was born January 20, 1935 in Marshes Siding to Dillman Slaven and Ethel Shoopman Slaven. Bill served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959 and later made his living as a carpenter and electrician. He attended the East Stearns Church of God. Bill was an avid fan of the Eagles music and enjoyed walking at Barrenfork and talking with people. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and after retirement he stayed busy with what he called piddling.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his stepfather, Nelson Sellers, brothers, Harold Slaven and J. T. Slaven, sisters, Delphine Raisor and Lena Kidd, great grandson, Zerek Slaven, and son-in-law, Jim Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, whom he married May 27, 1956, sons, Mike Slaven and his wife, Paula, and Doug Slaven and his companion, Dawn Ewers, daughters, Pam Miller and Beverly Crabtree and her companion, Steve Posey, grandson, Zachary Slaven and his wife, Stephanie, Zane Slaven, Joshua Crabtree, and Jarad Crabtree and his wife, Heather, great grandchildren, Zyler and Liv Slaven, Jesse Crabtree, and Ian Durham, special nephew and nephews, Rick Kidd, Elizabeth Campbell Bryant, and Jenny Mooneyham, and his pets, Brownie and Polly.
