Obituary for Billie "Uncle Bill" Phillips

Billie Ray (Uncle Bill) Phillips, age 83 years, 10 months and 13 days, passed away, Thursday, Aug 11, 2022, at Cumberland Manor Nursing and Rehab, in Somerset, Kentucky and was placed in the care of the Hickman- Strunk Funeral Home.

He was born on Thursday, Sept 29, 1938 in the Worley coal camp, to Osborn and Lucinda (Murphy) Phillips. He married his wife of 63 years, Stella King Phillips. Their marriage was blessed by a daughter, Darla.

Bill earned his living as a carpenter/handy man and after his retirement worked for a time as a Walmart greeter. As a young man, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years, he used his carpentry skills building bird houses and other crafts out of things like drinking straws and breakfast cereal boxes.

Bill is survived by his wife, Stella, daughter Darla Pearson, and her husband, Danny, and grandson, Daniel Pearson, all of Berea, his brother, Glenn Phillips and his wife, Marilyn, nieces and nephews including, Tim Phillips, Gregg Phillips, Heather Bell, Jessica Phillips, Tony Phillips, Denise Phillips West, Sherry Strunk, Lisa Kidd, Rick Garland, and Vicky King and many other nephews, nieces, great and great- great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded and death by his parents, his brothers, Hurstle and Edmond Garland, and Willard Phillips and two sisters, Christine and Caroleene.

Bill was saved many years ago and was a Baptist. He will be remembered as a kind and generous man, always willing to help folks whenever he could. He was well loved and respected in our community and his family who miss him terribly. Because of his testimony of his faith in Jesus, our loss is his eternal gain.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 15, 2022 at 1:00PM in the chapel of the Hickman- Strunk Funeral Home. Burial was in the Angel Cemetery.
