Obituary for Bob Trammell

Robert R. (Bob) Trammell passed away at Lake Cumberland Medical Center June 2, 2021. He was born in Revelo, KY, September 30, 1931. Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years Betty Gwendoline Siler Trammell (their honeymoon never ended), and his children Robert K. (Kenny) Trammell (Debbie) and Sharon Kaye Baird (Jeff), grandchildren: Mykel Baird, Rusty Baird, and Siler Trammell, and great grandchildren, Alayna Baird, Carys Baird, and Ruger Baird.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Veenie Trammell, brothers Cecil and “Little Bill”, and sisters, Imogene Trammell Strunk and Lois June Trammell Creekmore. Surviving siblings include Betty Perry, Jewel Dean Cobb, Carol Meadors, Norma Meadors, Faye Stephens, Ralph Trammell, and Larry Trammell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and an extended family reaching into the hundreds!

Bob’s focus was on God, family, and country. Bob was a faithful member of East Pine Knot Tabernacle Church of God where he served as a trustee and his immediate and extended family meant the world to him. As a proud former member of the United States Marine Corps he was one squared away Marine, having served from 1951 through 1953. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel in 1992. One of his special memories was a personal tour, arranged by his son, of the Marine Corps Maintenance Center Albany where he was presented with a special plaque in the shape of the State of Georgia and dedicated to “Colonel Trammell”. Bob was a truck driver for many years hauling coal and cattle as well as a heavy equipment operator.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed the annual Trammell squirrel hunting trip to Shut-In Branch on Jellico Creek. His tales along with those of Cecil and Harold Dean Chinn always kept everyone laughing. He always baked the cornbread and it was no doubt the best you could ever eat!!

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the East Pine Knot Tabernacle Church of God. Burial followed in the T. Chitwood Cemetery.

Bob will be sorely missed by family and friends but all should remember the last line in the Marine Hymn:
“If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.”

Private First Class Bob Trammell has reported for duty!

Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home was honored to serve the family of Bob Trammell.
