Obituary for Boyce Dean King

Boyce Dean King, age 87 years, 9 months, and 14 days, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at his home in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the East Pine Knot Tabernacle Church of God with Bro. William Kilby, Bro. Steve Perry, and Bro. Harold Baird officiating. Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery.

He was born Thursday, June 29, 1933 in Bald Knob, Kentucky to Crit King Sr. and Bethena Spradlin. Boyce retired from the United States Army after serving 21 years, 4 months, and 8 days. During this time, he served four tours in Vietnam, two tours in Korea, and a tour in Thailand, as well as stateside at several different bases. For his service he was highly decorated, he was awarded a Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in ground operations against hostile forces, a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat action, 5 Air Medals for 5 different incidents of distinguished meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight and operational land combat, 2 Army Commendation Medals, 6 Good Conduct Medals, several National Defense Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and a US Service in Vietnam War Medal with 3 battle stars. After retiring from the Army, he taught at McCreary Central High School. Boyce was a member of the East Pine Knot Tabernacle Church of God. He was also a member of Gideons International and an active supporter of St. Jude. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, hunting, fishing, and watching the turkeys in his yard.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Norma Jean King, brothers, Theo King, Leon King, Estil King, and Wilburn King, sisters, Ruby McElfresh, Christina Buelhman, and an infant sister, and granddaughter, Paige Duff.

Survivors include his son, Curtis Webb King, and wife, Melissa, his daughter, Sonia Denise King, a brother, Crit King Jr., and wife, Lisa, sisters, Donna Roberts, Maxine Snow, and Shirley Skidmore, grandchildren, Makayla King, and Matthew Ezekiel King. and two special nieces, Patricia Gregory, and Pam Duncan.
