Obituary for Cecil Creekmore

Cecil Creekmore Jr., age 85, of the Marsh Creek community departed this life on Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Corbin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Corbin, Kentucky. He was born on August 27, 1936 in Pine Knot, Kentucky to the late Cecil Creekmore Sr. and Jewell (Neal) Creekmore. In addition to his parents, Cecil was also preceded in death by his wife of over 49 years, Fayrene (Hill) Creekmore and siblings, Georgie Wilson, Beatrice Burchett, and Ackmon Creekmore.

He is survived by a sister, Mary Strunk and husband Jim of Strunk,Kentucky; a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends to mourn his passing.

Cecil was a member of Silerville United Baptist Church. He was the devoted husband and caretaker of his wife Fayrene until her passing in March 2006. He enjoyed farming and gardening, which included planting 200 pounds of potatoes each year. Cecil was a jack of all trades which includes: carpenter, handyman, miner, and logger. He was an animal lover and took great care of his horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and cattle. Cecil’s farm and his cowbell collection were featured on the popular Kentucky traveling feature series “Sideroads”. Cecil will be remembered as a person who loved his family and friends and enjoyed visiting with them.

He will be laid to rest following a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 1, 2021 in the Jones Cemetery on Highway 779 in Strunk, Kentucky.
