Obituary for Darrell E. King

Darrell E. King 83, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper, IN.

He was born on May 27, 1939 in Pine Knot, KY the son of the late Butler and Elnora (Hamblin) King. He was a graduate of Pine Knot High School class of 1957. He worked at Borg Warner, retiring in 1999.

Darrell loved his family and spending time with them. He could be described as, “One of the best people you’d have ever met”. He enjoyed working with his hands. He enjoyed doing woodworking and was a creative person. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, dancing and country music. He was a Mason. He played in a bowling and golf league with the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sheila; children, Terrie King Greenwalt. Donna King Burton (John), Gene Martin, Telaina Wrigley (Len), Rhonda Bookout (Jeff); daughter-in-law, Tabitha Martin; nineteen grandkids; forty-four great grandkids; many great great grandkids; siblings, Don King (Betty), Lenora Ross, Mary Lee Strunk, Chris King (Bernie), Paul King (Linda), Josie Davis (George), Lonnie King (Allyson); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Darrell King, Jr., Steve Martin; daughter, Patricia King; grandson, Zachary Greenwalt; brother, Jerry King.

Family and friends may call from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Thursday, June 9, 2022, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, 415 E. Washington Street, Muncie, IN 47305

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, June 9, 2022, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, 415 E. Washington Street, Muncie, IN 47305. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
