Obituary for Delmer Eugene Barnett
Delmer Barnett, age 88 years, 10 months, and 16 days, passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at his home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. David Burton and Bro. Chuck Jeffers officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Ridge Cemetery.
He was born March 4, 1931 in Whitley City, Kentucky to Prince and Pearlie (Rollins) Barnett. Delmer was a member of the Davis Hill Church of God. Delmer was very community minded and served McCreary County well. He was the first Fire Chief in McCreary County, served as Constable in District One for four years, served as Deputy Sheriff for a period of five years, and as School Resource Officer for many years. He also worked as an Assistant at McCreary County Funeral Home for twenty two years. In his spare time, Delmer loved playing music, especially Gospel music. He never met a stranger and saw good in everyone he met.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Barnett, whom he married December 24, 1962, four sons, Steve Barnett, and his wife, Sherry, of Jamestown, Tennessee, Scott Barnett, of Marshes Siding, Tim Barnett, and his wife, Heather, of Whitley City, Brian Barnett, and his wife, Brittany, of Stearns, two daughters, Tammy Barnett and Ashley Grundy both of Somerset, eleven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Preceding Delmer in death are his parents, his stepmother, Martha Barnett, four brothers, Virgil, Homer, Raymond, and Noble Barnett, two sisters, Pat Steele and Clarice Watson, and one grandchild, Cristy.
