Obituary for Doris Chitwood (Perry)

Mary Doris Chitwood, age 89 years, 5 months, and 10 days, of Whitley City passed away Monday, August 29, 2022, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Hayes Creek Church of God with Bro. Steve Perry officiating. Burial was in the Hayes Creek Cemetery.

She was born March 19, 1933, in Creekmore. Kentucky to Ledford Perry and Mandora Lovett Perry. Doris served the community in many different capacities, she cleaned for Dr. Perry’s office for years, worked at the shirt factory, the McCreary County Preschool, and in later years at the McCreary County Senior Citizens Center. She was a lifetime member of Hayes Creek Church of God but attended the East Pine Knot Tabernacle Church of God. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed her coffee, gardening, and sewing. She was a natural caregiver who loved cooking and taking care of everyone, especially her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Ernest Chitwood, who she married July 7, 1952, a brother, Rev. Leamon Perry, a sister, Kathleen Douglas, and a granddaughter, Brittany Chitwood.

Survivors include five sons, Terry Chitwood and his wife, Linda of Whitley City, Dwight Chitwood and his wife, Donna, of Mt. Sterling, Randy Chitwood and his wife, Bobbie, of Whitley City, Timothy Chitwood of Whitley City, and Ledford Chitwood and his wife, Karla, of Somerset, a daughter, Kathy Neal and her husband, Dennis, of Strunk, sisters, Bertie Maude Meadows and her husband, Charles, and Myrtle Hamlin both of Williamsburg, twenty grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thanks to her granddaughter, Shanda Chitwood, for everything she has done.
