Obituary for Douglas Carter Strunk

Douglas Carter Strunk, age 65 years, 8 months, and 1 day passed away suddenly Monday, March 11, 2019.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents Dorman and Mildred Strunk.

Douglas began working early in life with adults with special needs which led to his dedicated career in special education. He received his bachelor degree from the University of the Cumberlands and his masters degree from Union College. Doug became a Learning and Behavior Disorder teacher in 1983 for Middlesboro Schools.

He is survived by his brother, Dr. Danny Strunk, wife, Mary Lee, and sister, Judy Lee, husband, Darryl, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, extended family Dave and Brenda Shelley, Allen and Lillian Taylor, Stan and Liz Anderson, Brandi and Garrett Russell, Jody Dugger, Lexi, and Kit.

Doug was not only a teacher but was an amazing storyteller, joker, lover of music, animal lover, great cook, night owl, and had impeccable taste in home decor. He will be dearly missed by his family and many wonderful friends.

A celebration of life was held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 12 noon at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.
