Obituary for Ella Mae Matthews (Jones)
Ella Mae Matthews, age 81, wife of Hunter Matthews of Stearns, passed away at her home on Thursday, March 14th, 2024 and was placed in the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 18th at 1:00pm in the Chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. The family received friends after 11:00am until the funeral hour. Burial followed in the Matthews Family Cemetery.
Ella was born to Johnny and Ada (Inman) Jones on December 13th, 1942 in Yamacraw, Kentucky. Ella was a homemaker all her life, always finding a way to provide for her family, and show them how much she cared for them. Ella was a member of the Sand Hill United Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, sewing, and crocheting.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Ada Jones, her brothers, Oscar Jones, and Lawrence Jones, and her sisters, Imogene Perry, and Phyllis Jones.
She is survived by her husband Hunter Matthews of Stearns, her son, David Matthews of Chattanooga, her daughter Vickie Matthews of Whitley City, her brothers, Clarence Jones, and Arnold Jones, her sisters, Judy Morgan, Karen Bruce, and Patricia Strunk, one grandchild, Derek Barnett and his wife Taylor, and two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Lainey Barnett.
