Obituary for Ersel Barron Day
Ersel Day age 80 years, 9 months, and 8 days of Harriman, Tennessee passed away Friday, September 8, 2023 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 12, 2023, in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
She was born December 1st 1942, in Revelo Kentucky to Herschel Baker and Evelyn Grider. Ersel was a member of the East Apple Tree Baptist Church. She attended McCreary County High school and went off to the north with her mother and graduated from Holmes High School in Covington, Kentucky. She got her first job at JC Penney Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio and went on to become the First Woman Contractor in McCreary County. Ersel was very talented in the art of crocheting and quilting. She loved to share her knowledge and teach her grandchildren and nieces how to crochet and quilt.
Preceding her in death were her parents, spouse, Bob Day, two sisters, Doris Faye Blackburn and Brenda Lewis and brother-in-law Virgil “Pap” Lewis, 2 infant grandsons, Jake Day and Jared Green and nephew, Joshua Roberts.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Patrick McElhaney, daughter, Robin Day and son, Clinton Day and Pam Harris, sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Ed Roberts, grandchildren, Shalaina and Michael Allen, Matthew Purvis and Ryan Day, great grandchildren, Jacob Allen, Maegan Allen, and Aaron Allen and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is companion William “Bud” Hearne III.
