Obituary for Faye Marie Thomas (Hicks)
Faye Marie Thomas, age 93 years, 2 months and 26 days, widow of Donald Thomas, went to be with the Lord, on Saturday August 15, 2020 from the Christian Care Center in Corbin, Ky. and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
Faye was born on May 20, 1927, in St. Charles in Lee County, Va. to Finley Hicks and Nola Anderson Hicks. She married Donald Thomas on Jan. 3,1947 and they began their family soon afterward.
Faye earned her living as a rural mail carrier from the Strunk, Ky. post office for 37 years. She was especially proud that she took the route over from her mother, who began carrying the mail on horseback. Faye was loved by the folks on her route, always going over and above to serve them. Faye attended Upper Marsh Creek Church.
She was well know as a skilled, meticulous seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family.
Faye is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother, Ruben Hicks, sister, Edna Hicks Hoover, and brothers-in-law, Eugene and Arnold Thomas.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Thomas Darabant (Richard), her son Bruce Thomas (Regina), her grandchildren, Dustin Petrey, Colleen Darabant, Ryan Thomas (Teresa), Brittany Thomas Downing (Derek), her great grandchildren, her nephews Gary Hoover (Sarah) and Bob Thomas (Carrie), sisters-in-law, Carolyn Thomas Young, Gladys Hicks, and Sylvia Thomas, step siblings, Jimmy Meadows, Julie Meadows Spradlin, and Roberta Meadows Ledbetter.
