Obituary for Gayla Anderson

Gayla Anderson, age 58, of Lexington, KY, passed away Friday, February 23rd, 2024, at the UK Chandler Medical Center and was placed into the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Following her wishes, cremation was chosen, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gayla was born to Dorman and Lois (Taylor) Anderson on October 29th, 1965, in Somerset, Kentucky. Gayla spent her childhood in Whitley City, Kentucky, was a member of the First Baptist Church, and graduated from McCreary Central High School. After high school, Gayla attended the University of Kentucky. There she joined the Alpha Chi Chapter of the national sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. This organization provided lifelong friends and activities. Gayla graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Environmental Science. After graduation, Gayla pursued a career of accredited certifications for various industries. Gayla’s career began with NASA in Cleveland, Ohio and ended with NQA Global Certification Body headquartered in Action, Massachusetts. For the last few years, one of Gayla’s favorite clients was Louis Vuitton. She loved their products, but especially admired the company’s goal of sustainability and efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.
During her life, Gayla was an avid UK basketball and football fan and would always support the Wildcats. Last year, she had the wonderful experience of attending the UK men's basketball SEC tournament in Tampa, Florida.
After college, Gayla remained an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae. While she was living in Las Vegas, she was an advisor to the chapter at UNLV. At the time of her death, Gayla was the President of the ZTA Lexington Alumnae Chapter.

While living in Lexington, Kentucky Gayla attended Immanuel Baptist Church. Gayla enjoyed Keeneland and often gathered there with friends. Gayla had an effervescent personality and a smile that would light up a room. Over her mantel in her home was a saying, “Spread a little sparkle wherever you go.” Gayla will be greatly missed by all her friends, loved ones and Zeta sisters.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorman and Lois (Taylor) Anderson.

She is survived by her sister Kim Anderson, of Lexington, Kentucky.
