Obituary for James Peyton Heth
James Heth age 83, of Lexington, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Baptist Health in Lexington and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.
He was born on June 23, 1940 in Stearns, Kentucky, as the only child, to the late Eugene Thomas Heth and Opal Jean (McGuffey) Heth. Jim attended Stearns Elementary and graduated from Stearns High School. Continuing his education at Cumberland College then transferring to EKU, he accomplished two bachelor’s degrees, one in History and Geology in 1966, and one in Law Enforcement in 1969. He went on to work with the state as a social worker in juvenile services. Jim continued his education, attending the University of Kentucky and graduating with a master’s degree in social work in 1975. He then worked in Frankfort in Aging Services from 1975 to 2001. Jim proudly served in the Korean War as an Army Security Agent. He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan, enjoyed reading, and loved his grandchildren. He also was a former ham radio operator.
Preceding him in death are his parents and one son, James Michael Heth.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda (Abbott) Heth of Lexington, a daughter, Amy (Lyman) Martin, two granddaughters, Alyssa and Cassidy, brothers-in-law and sisters in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
