Obituary for Jay Perry

J. W. "Jay" Perry, age 93 years, 11 months, and 7 days, of Whitley City, Kentucky passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at his home.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church, Whitley City with Bro. John Ditty and Bro. Roger Anderson officiating. Burial was in McCreary Memorial Garden.
He was born July 29, 1923 in the Chenoa community of Bell County, Kentucky to Arsbur Perry and Myra Hatmaker Perry. Jay was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Whitley City where he served as a deacon for over sixty years. In his early years, he worked as a television repairman. Jay is well remembered as the owner of Jay's Discount in Whitley City for over thirty years. he had a passion for youth and volunteered many hours to serve the youth in our community. He coached Little League baseball, basketball, and was a scoutmaster. Jay was a member of the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, the DAV, having served as adjunct, and was a lifetime member of the Kinne-Slaven Post of the American Legion. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the outdoors.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, A. E. "Gus" Perry, and sisters, Antha Alcorn and Omega Sutton.
Survivors include his wife of sixty seven years, Norma Jean Earls Perry, sons, David W. Perry and his wife, Carmen, of Whitley City, Kentucky and Phillip Perry of Inverness, Florida, daughters, Debbie Perry of Gainesville, Florida and Becki Perry of Whitley City, Kentucky, a sister-in-law, Wilma Dean Sampson Perry of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and two grandchildren, Ben Perry and Victoria Perry.
