Obituary for Lina Gay Hill (Haynes)

Lina Gay Hill, age 78 years 6 months and 26 days, departed this life on Thursday, March 21, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 29th, 2024, at 1:00pm in the Chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home, Brother Mike Casada officiating. The family received friends after 11:00am until the funeral hour. Burial followed in the Spradlin Cemetery.

She was born August 24th, 1945 in Cooperative, Kentucky to the late Jesse and Elsie (Spradlin) Haynes.

Gay is survived by her husband of 57 years, Louie Randall Hill, who she married July 11, 1966 in Whitley City, KY. They were blessed by two sons, Dewayne Hill and wife, Lee, of Brentwood, TN and Darren Hill and wife, Dana, of Somerset, KY. She took immense pride in her 4 grandchildren, Darren Gene (DJ) Hill of Kalamazoo, MI, Lindsey Madsen and husband ,Kyle ,of Kalamazoo, MI, Lauren Hill and Grace Hill of Brentwood, TN. She was greatly blessed with two great-grandchildren, Peyton Jane Madsen and Karson Micheal Madsen.

Gay graduated from McCreary County High School with the class of 1963 and took a job at McCreary manufacturing in Stearns. After their marriage the couple moved to Muncie, IN for employment. Later they made their home in Kalamazoo, MI, where they raised their sons and Randall retired from GM.

Shortly after Randall’s retirement, they relocated to Wimauma, Fl, where they met new friends and enjoyed retirement life of traveling and taking cruises. Gay will be deeply missed by a host of family and friends that knew and loved her and will mourn her passing. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have known her.

Gay enjoyed gardening, canning, and was an amazing cook as well as an accomplished seamstress. As grandchildren came along, she provided childcare for the babies and the children of close friends. Her life was anchored in her family; her kindness, her integrity, and devotion to her family will be forever cherished.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and her brothers, an infant brother, and William C. Haynes and sister-in-law Janet, sisters Illa Jane Slaven and brother-in-law Mack Roger Slaven, and Nina Vanover and sister-in-law, Lana Summer Haynes.

In addition to her husband, sons, and grandchildren, she is also survived by her brothers, Ronnie Joe Haynes of Strunk, KY, Bruce Haynes and wife, Debbie, of Wimauma, FL, and Boris Haynes and wife, Sharon, of Whitley City, KY, and brother-in-law, Eben Vanover of Pine Knot, KY.
