Obituary for Louie Cecil Cordell

Louie Cecil Cordell, age 80years, 2 months, and 17 days, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2023 at the Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Boyd Rowe officiating. Burial was in the Jones Cemetery.

He was born April 15, 1943 to Aubrey Cordell and Rennie Musgrove Cordell. Louie proudly served in the United States Air Force where he worked as a jet engine mechanic. After leaving the military, he worked as an auto mechanic until his retirement. Louie enjoyed farming and tending his cattle. He loved all kinds of sports and excelled in most of them. He was offered a scholarship in Dayton, Ohio for his basketball skills. Louie, along with Clinton Gay started the football program in McCreary County. He was a wonderful softball first baseman, and his daughter, Sharree was his biggest fan. His love for NASCAR racing was well known among the family with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver until his retirement, then he favored Chase Elliott. But his favorite thing was spending time with his family. He was a very loving father and grandfather.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Lydell Cordell, a daughter, Sheila Cordell, brothers, David Cordell, Aubrey Cordell, Jr., and Jack Cordell and brother-in-law, Frank Privett.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Shirley Cordell, a son, Louie “Duke” Cordell, Jr., daughters, Sharree Payne and her husband, James, Cheryl Bozeman and her husband, Justin, Sharon Osborn and her husband, Carl, Stacia Jones and her husband, Silas, Stephanie Thompson, Chaska Cordell, and Heather Cordell, a sister, Janice Privett, sisters-in-law, Kaye Cordell and Lena Cordell, twelve grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
