Obituary for Louie "Duke" Cordell Jr.
Louie “Duke” Cordell Jr., age 45 years, 9 months, and 29 days, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 and was placed in the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Marsh Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Ronnie Peters officiating. Burial followed in the Jones Cemetery.
He was born September 17, 1977, in Somerset, Kentucky, to Louie Cordell and Shirley Thomas Cordell. Duke was offered a full ride scholarship to the University of Kentucky and Union College for Madrigals and also received the U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award. He graduated from Somerset Community College with an associate degree in respiratory therapy. He enjoyed football and jiu-jitsu. Duke had a big heart, was loving, was a hugger, and his best friend was his mother.
Preceding him in death was his father, Louie Cordell, brother, Lydell Cordell, and sister, Shelia Cordell.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Cordell, sisters, Sharree Payne, and husband, James, Cheryl Bozeman, and husband, Justin, Stacia Jones, and husband, Silas, Sharon Osborn, and husband, Carl, Stephanie Thompson, Chaska Cordell, and Heather Cordell, nieces, Chelsea Bozeman, Amber Coffey, Ashley Payne, Paige Payne, RayLynn Payne, and Sophia Owens, nephews, Alex Jones, Michael Jones, Dylan Payne, Gage Privett, Ethan Keith, and Zander Owens, and his beloved fur baby, Star.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the funeral fund.
