Obituary for Merrie Lee Stephens

Merrie Lee Stephens age 75, of Oneida, Tennessee, formerly of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 10th, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family and was placed in the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Christian services were held Friday, October 13th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery.

She was born in Whitley City, Kentucky on March 10, 1948, to the late Howard and Flora (Barnett) Stephens. Merrie Lee was a Graduate of McCreary County High School, she attended Cumberland College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Accounting. She was a long-time employee of Lumber King and served many years as their comptroller.

Merrie Lee loved the Lord, her family, and the world around her. She loved to pull pranks on her family, to draw, paint, travel, cook, and go sightseeing. She was saved during a revival in 1958. She cherished spending time with her family on holidays and during family dinners. Merrie Lee was talented, full of life, classy, and beautiful.

Her surviving family includes her daughters Lisa Stephens of Huntsville, Tennessee, Lori Burress and husband Richard, Amy West and husband Chesty, all of Helenwood, Tennessee. Two brothers, Donald Stephens and his wife Bonnie of Burnside, Kentucky, and Jerry Wayne Stephens and his wife Beverely of Somerset, Kentucky. Nine grandchildren Jacob Stephens, Kayla Rogers, Amanda Currence, Erin Stephens West, Benjamin Duncan, Hannah Kelley, Ethan Burres, Cheston West, and Dante West. 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Merrie Lee is preceded in death by three brothers Larry, John, and Little Carl, and a sister-in-law Doris Stephens.

Merrie Lee lived a remarkable life, enjoying it to the fullest. We take comfort in her testimony of her faith in Jesus Christ.
