Obituary for Ocie Cox
Ocie Cox passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 27, 2023 and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Cook officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Ocie was born to Matt and Mary Ellen Walters in Duck Run, KY on July 14, 1932. She married Elvin Cox at a young age and had two children Nora (Cox)Hamlin and Sharon (Cox) Naylor. Ocie and Elvin also raised a niece, Indiaetta (Walters)Cook and a nephew, Gary Walters as their own children.
In later life, Ocie took up making handmade crafts of grape vine wreathes, corn shuck flowers, and crocheting rugs from plastic bags.
Ocie spent time reading her Bible, watching religious programs and FOX news. She enjoyed keeping up with and discussing current events until her memory faded a year ago.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Eubank Baptist Church in Eubank KY.
She is predeceased by parents, daughter, Indiaetta Cook, all her six siblings-Floyd Walters, Herman Walters, James Walters, Elsie Bryant, Jessie Martin, and Mary Walters.
Ocie leaves behind daughters: Nora (Estil) Hamlin, Sharon (Mark) Naylor and son: Gary Walters, several grandchildren to include Michael Cook, Garrett Cook, Charles Walters, Joshua Walters, Chad Walters, Johnthan Walters, her beloved grandson: Eric Watters. Ocie & Eric spent a lot of enjoyable time together. They had a unique bond. She also leaves a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
