Obituary for R D Bryant

RD Bryant, age 69 years, 6 months, and 28 days, of Monticello, formerly of Marshes Siding, Kentucky passed away Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky and was placed in the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Craig Reed officiating. Burial was in the Angel Cemetery.

He was born May 13, 1954 in Somerset to Steve Bryant and Hazel (Price) Bryant.

RD was a member of the Marshes Siding Church of God. He loved the outdoors and was always looking for an excuse to be outside. RD always looked forward to hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He also loved woodworking and carpentry. Most days after retirement, he tinkered in his garage. He loved to gift his woodworking projects to friends and family. Later when he became less mobile, he enjoyed sitting in the garage and keeping an eye on his neighborhood while sorting out his huge collection of fishing baits.

His love for the outdoors and pride in his community led him through several vocations and allowed him to develop several lifelong friendships and relationships. His family will never forget how dear those people were to RD.

RD ultimately retired from the McCreary County School District after serving several years as a bus driver and instructor. Upon retirement from the School District, he became the official phone operator and coffee connoisseur at Best Way Barbershop. His greatest love was his precious wife, Donna. Together they raised a beautiful family. If you spent 5 minutes in RD’s company you learned how proud he was of his children, their spouses, and especially his grandson. His favorite title was definitely Papaw. His love for his family and friends was unmatched and he will be truly missed.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Pamela Dawn Bryant; and a sister-in-law, Jean Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Bryant of Monticello, Kentucky; a son, Steven Bryant and wife, Heather of Somerset, Kentucky; a daughter, Rachel Jones and husband, Shaler of Pine Knot, Kentucky and a precious grandchild, Carter.

Also surviving are brothers, Scott Bryant of Louisville, Kentucky, Greg “G. G.” Bryant and wife, Beverly of Hamilton, Ohio, and Stuart Bryant and wife, DeDe of Whitley City, KY; sisters, Judy Worley and husband, Boyce of Somerset, Kentucky, Patsy Phillips and husband, Wayne of Stearns, Kentucky, and Shelia Heflin and husband, Anthony also of Stearns; sisters-in-law, Becky Knochelman and husband, Robert of Walton, Kentucky and Debbie Coulter Jones and husband, Bill of Hartsville, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
