Obituary for Ralph Delynn Jones

Ralph Delynn Jones, age 82 years, 3 months, and 10 days, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany Indiana and was placed in the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Graveside services were held Saturday, January 2, 2021, in the Jones Cemetery in Strunk, Kentucky, with Bro. Braxton King officiating.

Ralph, born September 14, 1938 in Revelo Kentucky, was one of nine children born to George Dewey and Crecy Jane (Ryan) Jones, both deceased. He was born in to a quickly changing world. His two older brothers entered WWII when he was four and two older sisters left for nurses training at almost the same time. The world was just settling down in 1950 when his father suddenly died in a coal mining accident and Ralph, age 14, saw everything change again. He graduated from high school and moved to Indianapolis where a sister was living and went to work for Chevrolet, retiring after 30 years. Ralph loved the outdoors, exploring the mysteries that were waiting for him. He loved to fish, hunt, and tell big stories about his adventures. It did not matter if he was in the hills of Kentucky, or out west in New Mexico, there was always a story to tell with that sly grin of his. Ralph enjoyed entertaining his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews with his animal calls and big bear stories. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him.

Brothers who preceded him in death are James, Carl, Dale and Roland Jones and a sister, Juanita (Jones) Griffing.

He is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 48 years, two daughters Kimberly Brooks and Elizabeth Ann Gulock (husband Jim), two sons Gregory (wife Kristen) and David (wife Linda), four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He is also survived by a brother Paul Jones and two sisters, Genevieve Nettles, Geneve Lawson, sister in laws Cordelia and Janet Jones and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lord's Gym or the McCreary County Christian Care Center.

Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home was honored to serve the family of Ralph Delynn Jones.
