Obituary for Tim Lavender

Timothy Doyle Lavender, age 68 years, 6 months, and 13 days, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at 8:00pm in the Chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Braxton King Officiating. Burial was in the Stearns Cemetery.

Tim graduated high school as part of the McCreary County High School Class of 1969. After high school, he went on to attend the University of Kentucky School of Law and became a member of the Kentucky Bar Association. During his forty years of practicing law, Tim has served McCreary County in many capacities. He served as County Attorney, Master Commissioner, and was currently serving as Trial Commissioner. The law firm of Hatfield and Lavender operated by Tim and the late George "Tweety" Hatfield is well-known in this community for tireless efforts to help the people of the county.

In 1990, Tim founded WHAY 98.3 radio station in Whitley City, which is heard around the world. During his free time, he enjoyed watching Kentucky basketball, riding motorcycles, baseball, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are: his former wife, Rebecca Lavender; two aunts, Bertha Jo Anderson, Anna Lee Wright; and two uncles, Dorman Ross, and Maurice Ross.

Tim is survived by: his wife, Linda Lavender; a son, William Lavender and his wife Sharon of Louisville; a daughter, Emily Lavender and partner Brent Back of Whitley City; stepsons, Michael Doran, and Brock Byrd; his father, Doyle Lavender; his mother, June Ross of Revelo; grandchildren, Jonathan and Jenna Lavender, Riley and Isabella Newman; granddaughter-at-heart, Jocelyn Sexton; aunt Donna Ross; uncle David Ross and wife Kathy; and numerous cousins.
