Obituary for Wanda Owens

Wanda Faye Owens, age 81, 4 months and 28 days, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Allen Coffey officiating. Burial was in the Owens Family Cemetery.

She was born July 19, 1939 in KayJay, Kentucky, to Edward Yancey and Cana (Vanover) Yancey. She met and later married Silas Owens on December 24, 1959 and made their home together and raised a family. Wanda was of the Baptist faith, and enjoyed raising a big garden for as long as she was able. But most of all, she loved caring for and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Curtis Douglas Owens, her daughter, Etta Lynn Owens and a granddaughter, Felicia Johnson, brothers, Doyle Yancey, Clellan Yancey, and her brother Arvel Reed Yancey, who passed away just hours after Wanda, sisters Alene, Wilma , Edda Rose, Lenna Ruth and Joyce, special uncle, El Vanover, special aunt, Hazel Helton Vanover, and special first cousin, James Helton.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Silas Owens, sons, Wymon Owens and his wife Angela, Silas Euell Owens and his wife Kathy, and Oliver Owens, grandchildren, Latosha Owens, W.L. Wymon Owens Jr., and Mason Owens, great grandchildren, Logan Owens, AJ Owens, Mason Owens, Bryana Owens and Madison Owens, sisters Glenna Mae Stanton, Lois Coffey and her husband, Pat, and Elva Hughes and her husband, Charlie and several nieces and nephews.
