Obituary for Wanda May Waggoner (Snider)
Wanda May (Snider) Waggoner, born January 21, 1927 in Mt. Pleasant, Pa. to Ernest Alvin and Anna May Porch Snider, passed away on October 13, 2023 in Johnstown, Ohio after extended hospice care, surrounded by her family.
Graduate of Connemaugh (Pa.) HS, she was married in 1945 to the love of her life Millard Waggoner of Sandy Hook, KY until his passing in April, 2007. She was also preceded in death by brother James (Helen) Snider, sisters Loraine (Pat) Goss (Carl) Early and Betty June, grandson Mark Shannon Waggoner, many beloved in-laws, and their children.
She is survived by daughter Joyce Waggoner (Terry) Priest and son Wayne (Sharon) Waggoner; granddaughters Amy Jane (Kim) Priest-Redman, Lisa Lynn Waggoner, Abigail Priest; great-granddaughter Chelsea (Andrew) Huckeba, great-grandsons, Alex (Tabby) Waggoner, Aiden (Grace) Green, great-granddaughter Sara Beth "Sam" Priest-Redman and great-grandson Lucas Eliot "Lukey" Priest-Redman. Numerous nephews and nieces, her husband's brother Isom Waggoner, sisters Cora Phillips and Betty Ann Eldridge also survive.
She was a devoted Christian and, beside her tithes, she gave to St. Jude's Children Hospital and Samaritan's Purse. She enjoyed reading, Scripture and Bible study, watching old movies like "Now, Voyageur", "Kings Row", “Jane Eyre", any film with Shirley Temple, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, or Gary Cooper. MeTV favorites were "Perry Mason" and "Wagon Train". She enjoyed the music of Perry Como and Abba "Dancing Queen", gospel music, and spirituals sung by Elvis. She loved vacation and traveling, garage sales, bargains, flea markets, talking about family, shopping for holidays, black jelly beans, strawberry milk shakes, and bananas. Eating out was not a problem as long as they offered gravy to put on her French fries. She loved board games, card games, Yahtzee and interacting with her children and grands.
She became a child of God early in life and managed to prolong that trusting assurance of God's love her ninety-six years. She put God first, others always came before herself. She put herself last and patiently waited her calling home. Hospice staff found her to be a positive, cheerful patient. Thank you, Wanda, for showing us how to live one’s faith.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 1:00pm at Lewis and Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, KY. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service (12pm-1pm) also on Thursday, October, 19, 2023.
