Betty Tapley Thompson age 87 years and 10 days of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at her home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 4:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Watson officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery. She was born October 9, 1928 in Revelo, Kentucky to James Monroe Thompson and Ethel (Ball) Thompson. Betty was a member of the Pine Knot Southern Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, traveling, and was a fan of The Uptown Opry. Betty loved her family and of all her hobbies, the one she enjoyed most was caring for her family of 5 generations. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, James Tapley; her 2nd husband, Estle Thompson; a brother, John Thompson; sisters, Phyllis Ann and Jean Allen; a great-granddaughter, Randi Elaine Chitwood; and a great-great-grandson, Grant Torkelson. Survivors include her sons, Jim Tapley and wife, Barbara, of Pine Knot, Kentucky and Scott Tapley and wife, Gwen, of Oneida, Tennessee; a daughter, Jean Stephens and husband, Jim, of Pine Knot, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family of Mrs. Betty Thompson.
