Betty Wright, 79, of Whitley City, KY a retired educator, died on February 23, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after a short illness. She had been a classroom and reading teacher during her career, spanning nearly 40 years in Kentucky and Ohio. She taught at the Fort Laramie, Russia, and Sidney public schools in Ohio and in the McCreary County School System in Kentucky. She was a graduate of Cumberland College with a Bachelor of Science degree (now, the University of the Cumberlands) and held a MS in Education from Eastern Kentucky University. She and her late husband both felt a calling to return to Kentucky and contribute to the enrichment of students as public teachers after starting their careers in Ohio. She was an extremely dedicated teacher, often individualizing curriculums for the different learning styles of her students. She realized that the gift of reading was a key life skill for success; she remained passionate about reading even to her death. She was preceded in death by her husband Dave Wright, also an educator, and her parents Perry and Mamie Price. She is survived by two children, Dr. Scott Wright (Spouse -Jann) of Rochester, MN and Melissa Littrell (Spouse - Curtis) of Whitley City, Ky. Her grandchildren include Ashley Wright of Oxford, England, Katherine Wright of Tempe, Arizona, Sarah and Scott Wright of Rochester, MN, Allie Littrell of Whitley City, KY, Samantha Littrell of Pine Knot, KY and Robert Littrell of Lexington, KY. She had one great grandchild, Kamdin Littrell of Pine Knot, KY. She was active in her church, First Baptist of Whitley City, KY where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and participated in a women's prayer ministry. She was a dedicated Christian servant and evangelist, often sharing the gospel and reminding wayward believers of their need to return to Christ and be engaged in a local church ministry. Billy Graham once quipped "Some day, you will hear rumors that I am dead. Don't believe it for a moment; for at my death, I will be more alive than I have ever been." Betty Wright would want the same to be said of her. Funeral services were held Sunday March 3 at Hickman-Strunk funeral home in Whitley City, KY at 2 PM followed by internment in the Elk Spring Cemetery in Monticello, KY. Father Mike Neal officiated.
