Douglas Arthur Preston Rice, age 80, of Parkers Lake, Kentucky formerly of Floyd County passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Doug was born January 9, 1944 in Pikeville to Preston Taulby Rice and Cora Ann Stephens Rice. He was the Chief Engineer at Appalachian Regional Hospital before his retirement. Doug thoroughly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tinkering around. But he took most pleasure in spending time with his son, his dogs, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his beloved wife, Brenda, half-sisters, Willa Dean Moore and Christy Mae Rice, and half-brothers, Odie Graham Hall and Jay Lee Hall.

Survivors include his only son, Jeffrey Douglas Rice, and his wife, Kristy, grandchildren, Korie Rice and her husband, Billy Bettner, Joshua Vandeventer and his wife, Taylor, Samantha Arvesen and her husband, Patrick, and Damon Howe and his wife, Laura, six great granddaughters, Caidence, Ellery, Amelia, Phoebe, Mallie, and Maggie, and his dog, Teddy, who was his best friend.
