Eddie L. Brown, age 90, passed away on Sunday, October 13th, 2024 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, and was placed into the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held on October 18th, 2024 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Visitation was on October 17th, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 9:00pm. Burial followed the service in the Angel Cemetery.

Eddie was born to Archie and Flora (Davis) Brown on November 24th, 1933 in Stearns, Kentucky. He graduated from Stearns High School in 1951 and continued his education at Cumberland College and Eastern Kentucky University, obtaining a master's degree. After college, Eddie married his loving wife, Nedra Sampson Brown, on December 28, 1955. He began his educational career as a teacher at Slavens Elementary School in 1956, McCreary County High School in 1958, Pasco High School in Dade City, Florida, and Pine Knot High School for five years. After teaching, Eddie began his journey of being a principal, he was a principal at Pine Knot Elementary School for two years, McCreary County High School for three years, Pine Knot High School for two years, and Whitley City Elementary School for one year. After serving McCreary County Schools as a principal, he moved to the Central Office as Title I Director for eight years. Eddie then was hired as the Superintendent of the McCreary County Schools and served proudly for thirteen years. In the days before the School Resource Center, Eddie and Nedra served as the resource center by supplying school supplies, caps and gowns, senior graduation invitations, shoes, clothing, and anything the students needed. Outside of his passion for students, he enjoyed Golfing and was known for giving up and coming golfers all the equipment they needed, including his personal golf clubs, bags and golf balls. He also enjoyed travelling, reading, music, and playing in his bowling league. Eddie was a man of service, he was a member of Jaycees, the Whitley City Lions Club, and served as a deacon at the Stearns First Baptist Church. He was very benevolent, he donated to several charities, among them are Saint Jude, the Wounded Warrior Project, and Habitat for Humanity, where he also served in building projects.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nedra Brown, and his sister Dean Turner.

Eddie is survived by his daughters, Lisa Price and her husband, David, of Stearns, and Leslie Brown of Ashland, KY, his grandson Andrew Thomas Markelonis, his niece Belinda Hicks, of Guyton, Georgia, and his nephew, Mark Bell, of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
