Gearldean Chapman, age 86, wife of Norman Chapman, passed away on August, 12th, 2024, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY, and was placed into the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held on Friday, August 16th, 2024 at 1:00pm in the chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Staley officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation was held on Thursday, August 15th, 2024 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm in the chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Gearldean was born to William Hayden and Maggie (Morrow) Nevels on April 3rd, 1938 in Nevelsville, Kentucky. She grew up helping her parents in the family store, Nevels Grocery, assisting them however she could. In November 1954, Gearldean married Norman Chapman and they lived in Ohio for 40 years before returning to Kentucky. She always enjoyed singing, growing and arranging flowers and gardening. You could always find her outside working in the garden or taking care of her family. She loved her family dearly, whether she was cooking for them, spending time with them, or taking care of them, she was always deeply devoted to her family. Gearldean always put others before herself, caring for and nurturing those around them. She was a member of Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Deemes Nevels and his wife Jo, and her brother-in-law Olin Stanton.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Norman Chapman; her sons, Ronnie Chapman and his wife Melanie, of Ohio, and Rodney Chapman, of Alabama; her daughters, Janice Depew and her husband Randy, of Indiana, and Kimberly Bowen and her husband Don, of Texas; her brother, Gail Nevels and Jewel Jones, of Greenwood; her sister, Emma Stanton, of Ohio; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pam Howard and her husband Lee, and Allen Chapman and his wife Beverly; her 9 grandchildren; and her 11 great grandchildren.
