Helen Thomas, 84 passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Parker Healthcare & Rehabilitation. She was born on September 29, 1936 in Stearns Kentucky to Edgar and Ora (Jones) Thompson. Helen married Buford Thomas in 1956 and they moved, first to Muncie, and then they settled in Selma. Helen worked at Merchants Bank, Grants Department Store, and was a Book-Keeper at Osco Drugs at the Muncie Mall until a sudden illness prompted her retirement in 1983. As a result of that illness, Helen became a quadriplegic, which she handled (mostly) with dignity and grace. Helen began painting, as therapy, and over time, she developed her talent, gifting her paintings to family and friends who treasure them. Helen is survived by her two children, Jeffery (Catherine) Thomas of Fishers, Lisa (Andy) Schmidt of Selma; her three grandchildren, Lee (Courtney) Schmidt (and grandson Thorin) of Noblesville, Emily (Tom) Schmidt-Ten Eyck, of Durham NC, and Sarah Thomas of Fishers. Helen also leaves sisters Pauline Foust of Cincinnati, Ohio, Elizabeth (James) Foster of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Joan (Tom) Adams and Millie (Tom) Smith, both of Ligonier, Indiana, and brothers Lloyd (Evelyn) Thompson of Muncie, and Glen (Jeri) Thompson of Crittenden, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Buford, sister Viola Kelly of Cincinnati Ohio, and brothers Vernon Thompson and Richard Thompson, both of Stearns Kentucky. The family would like to express their gratitude to Vicky, Josh, Holly, Brooklyn, Christy, and all of the dear people at Parker Health and Rehab, who cared for Helen so well, and treated her like family, as well as her roommate and dear friend Mary. A private ceremony for family will be Saturday August 28, 2021 at Mountain View Cemetery in Stearns, Ky. Hickman Strunk Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Helen Thomas.
