On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, Rev. James L. Cox, Jr., passed away at age 70. Jim was born on November 14, 1949, in Keavy, Kentucky. He graduated from Cumberland College (now the University of the Cumberlands) in 1975. He became an ordained minister and served as pastor of the Grand Avenue Church of God in Taylor Mill, Kentucky, and Fonde Church of God in Fonde, Kentucky. Jim also served as the General Secretary and Treasurer and the Assistant General Overseer and Missions Director of the Church of God of the Mountain Assembly. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Rev. James L. Cox, Sr., and his brother, Charles. He is survived by his mother, Ethel; his children: Jennifer (Bill) Simpson and Jessica (Jared) Harmon; his grandchildren: Jack Simpson and Audrey Harmon; his sisters: Joann (Allen) Brewer and Shelli McGrath; his nephews: Benjamin and Daniel Brewer; his nieces: Casadi and Maggi McGrath; and several cousins. Funeral services will be private due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 virus, with Hart Funeral Home, Inc., in charge of arrangements.
