James (Jay) William VanOver age 57 years, 3 months, and 11 days of Stearns, Kentucky passed away Monday, July 20, 2015 at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Braxton King and Bro. Rick Watson officiating. Burial followed in the Troxell Cemetery. He was born April 9, 1958 at in Dayton, Ohio to Gilbert VanOver, Jr. and Ruth (King) VanOver. Jay was baptized in Hawaii, and joined the First Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He was a master electrician, draftsman, diesel mechanic, carpenter, plumber, and brick mason. He was also a former deputy sheriff and a member of the North McCreary Fire Department. While living in Germany he was a leader in the Order of DeMolay. He was very proud of his role in the DeMolay and was recognized for meritus service. Jay had also been a Drill Sergeant in the Army and a Anti Sub Tech in the Navy. He was a Renaissance Man and a man of many talents. Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Wright) VanOver; parents, Dr. Gilbert VanOver, Jr. and Ruth (King) VanOver all of Stearns, Kentucky; sons, Adrian James (AJ) VanOver and wife, Wendy of Oneida, Tennessee and Alex Kyle VanOver and wife, Tammy of Revelo, Kentucky; daughter, Veronica Nicole Lynch and husband, Jamey of Pine Knot, Kentucky; brothers, Gilbert VanOver III and wife, Phyllis of Crown Point, Indiana and Vaughn VanOver and Suzanne of Bristol, Tennessee; sisters, Pamela VanOver of Lexington, Kentucky and Sheila Joyner and husband, Hector of Wesley Chapel, Florida; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jedidiah, Ezra, Tiffany, Adrian, Andrew, Xavier, and a baby boy on the way; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family of Jay VanOver.
