Joyce Ann Sumner Lawson was born on September 4, 1940, in Marshes Siding, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Taylor Ridge Cemetery.

She entered Heavens Gates peacefully Thursday, May 21, 2026, with her loving daughters by her side. She was the daughter of Homer and Loretta Sumner, she was the oldest of their children. Joyce was known as a God fearing woman, her strength, her kindness, her lover for her heavenly father, and the love for her family. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, talking on the phone, spending most of her time in her bible and devotional. She is a member of First Baptist of Whitley City.

She leaves behind two daughters, Ella Phillips, and husband, Victor, and Lisa Jones, and husband, Don, daughter- in -law, Pam Lawson, four grandchildren, Alisha, and husband, Greg, Leanze, and husband, Justin, Zack, and wife, Megan and Lesley, and husband, Cody, eight great grandchildren, Priscilla and Maddox McGee, Zane and Cade Jones, Luka and Calum Kuhnapfel, and Leyon and Myles King to who brought her much joy. Also survived by brother Ken Sumner.

As she entered heavens gates, she was united with her daughter, Linda, two sons, Johnny and Danny, a sister, Faye, her parents, three brothers, the father of her children, John Lawson and many friends.
