Joyce Strunk, age 92, widow of Loran Strunk, passed away in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Tuesday, July 30, 2019. Memorial services were held in the chapel at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after 1:00pm Saturday, August 17, 2019. In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Strunk was cremated. She was born on May 16, 1927 near Fidelity, Kentucky to Frank and Kizzie Cooper, she was the tenth of the eleven children. She attended the Pine Knot High School and later Graduated from the University of Kentucky. She was a school teacher for several years. She married Loran Strunk on June 19,1951 in Kankakee, Illinois. They had one son, Steven, in 1956, and were foster parents to several children. They lived in a number of states during their marriage including Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio, and Tennessee. Joyce spent her retirement traveling all across the United States and several other foreign countries, she also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her extended family. Joyce is survived by: a sister, Gladys Hicks, of Whitley City; her son, Steven (Jan) Strunk of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her grandsons, Stuart (Patricia) Strunk, of New Orleans, Louisiana, Gordon (Sarah) Strunk of Chattanooga; and a great grandson, Julian, who was born to Sarah and Gordon on July 31, 2019. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either the Alzheimer's Association, the Alzheimer's Foundation, or the Ritchie/Cooper Scholarship Fund at Somerset Community College.
