Lana Jo Haynes, age 65 years, 5 months, and 5 days, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Darren Kidd and Bro. Damon Stevens officiating. Burial was in the Spradlin Cemetery. Born in Whitley City, Ky. October 23, 1951, to Howard and Lois (Bryant) Sumner, Lana grew up in a very close, loving family with hard working, Christian parents. Lana was a lifelong member of the Taylor Ridge Baptist Church. She graduated from McCreary County High School in 1968 and took a job at the Spot Restaurant where she met the love of her life, Ronnie Joe Haynes. The couple was married August 16, 1969 and began their life together. Melissa was born and their family was complete. Always a hard worker, Lana worked at the local shirt factory for a time, and then she and Joe went into the service station business where she worked hard every day. Lana enjoyed travelling, having visited 48 states. But the thing she enjoyed most was caring for Joe, Melissa, and Tera, her very special granddaughter. Lana loved being a grandmother. In addition to Joe, Melissa and Tera, Lana is survived by her brothers, Paul Sumner and his wife, Jewel, of Whitley City, Larry Sumner and his, Debbie, Helenwood, Tennessee, and James Sumner and his wife Rhonda, Whitley City, her sisters, Betty Hughes and her husband, Rufus, Brenda Maxwell and her husband, Lenville, all of Marshes Siding, Barbara Neal of Somerset, Phyllis King, Doris Choate and her husband, Charlie, all of Whitley City, Wilma Coffey and her husband, Lonnie, of Somerset, Janice Ridener and her husband, Bill, of Sawyer, brothers and sisters in law, Boris and Sharon Haynes, Gay and Randall Hill, Bruce and Debbie Haynes, Janet Haynes, and Ebon Vanover, and numerous other family members and friends. Lana is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Clifford, Doyle and Garry Summer. .
