Mary Loreen Shepherd, age 95 years, 2 months, and 21 days, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in Somerset, Kentucky. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Hilton Duncan officiating. Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery. She was born December 22, 1921 in Stearns, Kentucky to Oscar Walker and Gertie Stanley Walker. Loreen worked at McCreary Manufacturing before her retirement. She was a member of the Stearns First Baptist Church where she had volunteered her time with the Vacation Bible School and Awanas programs. Loreen was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and caring for her family. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Clyde Shepherd, and three brothers, Estil Walker, Mitchell Walker, and Curtis Walker. Survivors include sons, Jim Shepherd and his wife, Susie, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky and Forrest C. Shepherd of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, daughters, Brenda Herp and her husband, Jim, and Gloria Perkins both of Hudson, Florida, Anna Stephens of Oneida, Tennessee, and Donna Prater of Richmond, Kentucky, a sister, Norma Lee Boyatt of Whitley City, Kentucky, twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and eleven great great grandchildren.
