Mary J. Snowden, age 87, of Versailles, Kentucky passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 in Whitley City, Kentucky. She was born September 4, 1929 in Bath County, Kentucky to Frank C. Hart and Margaret Frances May Hart. Mary has been an elementary school teacher before her retirement and had continued as a substitute teacher after she retired. She was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday School teach and was active in the Silver Sneakers group. Mary loved to play bridge and golf and enjoyed travelling, especially to the beach. She had been very active in charity work with the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Association, the local food bank, Relay for Life and Feed the Hungry. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, John A. Snowden. Survivors include a son, John A. Snowden, III and his wife, Paula, of Dayton, Ohio, a daughter, Monica Lawson, and her husband, Terry, of Whitley City, Kentucky, five grandchildren, Brianna Lawson, John. A. Snowden IV, Amanda Snowden, Colby Lawson and his wife, Hannah, and Zachary Lawson and his wife, Holly, and a great grandson, Cooper Lawson. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
