Ray Phillips, age 87, of Stearns, Kentucky, husband of Freda Phillips, passed away June 7th, 2024 at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, Tennessee and was placed into the care of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. The family received friends after 11:00am until the funeral hour. Burial followed in the Phillips Cemetery.

Ray was born to Marcus and Nora (Clark) Phillips on May 21st, 1937 in McCreary County. From a young age he always enjoyed being outdoors. From hunting, to fishing, to gardening, or anything else he could find to do outside, he would do it. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960 until 1962. After his service he worked and retired from coal mining, where he worked for the West Coal company, mining in both deep mines and strip mines. Ray was known as a jack of all trades able to do anything he set his mind to. He was also a proud member of Stearns First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers, Boyce, Gerstel, Harold, Boyd, Hubert, and Jimmy.

He is survived by his wife, Freda Phillips of Stearns, his son Victor R. Phillips and his wife Ella, of Whitley City, his granddaughter, Alisha McGee and her husband Greg, his great-grandchildren Priscilla and Maddox McGee, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews that he considered his own grandchildren, and Jake Taylor who he considered his own special grandson.
