Valda Rose Slaven age 79 years, and 23 days of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Staley officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery. She was born March 12, 1937 in Co-operative, Kentucky to Inman and Kitty (Winchester) Newport. Valda was a homemaker and co-owner of West 80 Country Music. She was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, music, and spending time with her family. Preceding her in death are her parents; and a brother, Luke Newport. Survivors include her husband Don Slaven of Stearns, Kentucky, whom she married December 21, 1966; daughters, Donna Belcher and husband, Jamie of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Janie Slaven of Stearns, Kentucky; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family of Mrs. Valda Slaven.
