William Denton "Doc" Coffey, age 77 years, 7 months, and 24 days, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at his home in Stearns, Kentucky. Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Bryant and Bro. Danny Staley officiating. Burial was in the Methodist Cemetery. He was born September 27, 1939 in the White Oak Junction Community in McCreary County, Kentucky to Dudley Coffey and Gertie Taylor Coffey. Doc was a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He had worked for Stearns Coal and Lumber which later became Blue Diamond Coal and later Southfork Coal where he retired as general superintendent. In his spare time Doc enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and UK sports. But he had special passion for McCreary Central sports and had served as assistant coach for the girls basketball team and statistician for many teams. He not only was a valuable assistant to the teams but was a positive role model for many of the youth of our county, giving them life lessons and letting them know that they were important. Doc was a devoted Christian who loved his church and his family beyond words. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Mary Cook Coffey, brothers, Bennie and Kenneth Coffey, and a sister, Jewelene Dobbs. Survivors include his daughters, Carol Jones and her husband, Scott, and Aimee Strunk and her husband, Jason, both of Stearns, Kentucky, brothers, Hoyt Coffey and his wife, Betty, of Muncie, Indiana and Larry Coffey of Stearns, Kentucky, sister, Phyllis Coffey and her husband, Peter Ferrara, of Stearns, Kentucky, grandchildren, Ashley Anderson and her husband, Eric, Allyson Morgan and her husband, Mark, Lucas Strunk and Logan Strunk, and great grandchildren, Reis Anderson, Bryce Anderson, Maddox Morgan, and Braxton Morgan.
