Wilma Ellen King Prater, age 79 years, 2 months, and 16 days, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, was called home to be with the Lord on December 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving caregivers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery.

Wilma was born on September 23, 1945, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Haywood and Lela (Daugherty) King. She graduated from Pontiac Central High School in Michigan in 1965. After high school, Wilma married the love of her life, Willie Prater, and spent many years as a joyful homemaker and wife.

A woman of deep faith, Wilma loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was especially fond of babies and young children. She was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and had a strong Southern Baptist faith. Throughout her life, Wilma was known for her kindness, her ability to see the good in everyone, and her unwavering love for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, sharing laughter, and making cherished memories.

Wilma had a creative side, and one of her favorite hobbies was sketching landscaping designs, a talent she was particularly skilled at. In her earlier years, she worked as a nursing assistant, caring for the elderly at a local rest home. She also loved making pies from the orchard behind her home that she and Willie tended.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Haywood and Lela King; her sister, Eunice King; her brother, Alvin King; and her beloved husband, Willie Prater. She leaves behind many family members who will cherish her memory and miss her dearly.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Larhonda Crabtree of Revelo and Mary Douglas of Strunk for their exceptional care and love shown to Wilma during her final days, allowing her wish to be at home to be honored. Special thanks also go to Jami Taylor of Pine Knot for being a devoted friend, checking in on Wilma over the years. Hospice of Lake Cumberland provided wonderful care, and the family is deeply grateful for their services.
