About Us

Founded in the early 1920s

Hickman Funeral Home began as a sideline to a general merchandise business. Soon after, a new location was chosen between Stearns, Kentucky and Whitley City, Kentucky. As McCreary County grew so did Hickman Funeral Home, and in 1968 the business moved again to our present location. A second chapel was added in 1972.

The firm was purchased in 1987 by the present owners, James O. "Hap" and Tracey (Tucker) Strunk. Many major improvements to the facilities have taken place since then. An addition has been made to the chapel, a private arrangements office, and a large parking area are just a few of these.

We have also made great strides in our service to the community. We are the first to offer 24 hour obituary news in this area. We were also the first firm in our service area to use a color photo of the deceased on the memorial folders with each service if the family wishes to use one and one of the first firms in the state to offer tribute videos. We have pioneered a great many other unique services as well, clearly defining Strunk as the leader in well directed, tasteful funeral services.

A Professional Approach

A funeral service represents a unique opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one — the memories, values, and accomplishments. It’s also an important part of the grieving process. That’s why our attentive staff is trained to help you through this most difficult time.

There is no typical funeral service. Each family has its own special needs, customs, and traditions. We are dedicated to helping you create a service of remembrance which is most appropriate. We listen, with sensitivity, then assist you in choosing the flowers, music, clothing, and all the other essentials that are right for your needs. Whatever your situation or desire, we are here to help you — before, during, and after the funeral service.

Committed to Service

Our goal has always been to provide exceptional professional service to our friends and neighbors. By being locally owned we are more flexible to your needs and concerns.

Our dedicated staff has over 100 years of combined experience to serve you. Our funeral home is among the largest in our area and is accessible to the physically challenged. We invite you to visit and compare.

We are grateful that most families in McCreary County choose our firm in their time of need. They will always find friends that understand their needs and will make every effort to ease the burden of making funeral arrangements.
