Bernice L. Hamby age 87 years, 10 months, and 20 days of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Baptist Health of Corbin.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 26, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the Silerville Cemetery.
She was born August 3, 1927 in Strunk, Kentucky to Lloyd Anderson and Blanche (Cordell) Anderson. Bernice was the oldest member of the Silerville United Baptist Church, having joined in 1938 at the age of 12. She worked for the United States Postal Service as Postmaster in Strunk, retiring in 1991 after 30 years. When Bernice was not working, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and being outdoors. She also enjoyed singing, but above all she enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Kelcy Hamby whom she married August 11, 1945; a brother, Ottis Anderson; and a sister, Doris Wilson.
Survivors include her son, Benny K. Hamby of Strunk, Kentucky; a sister, Beatrice Daugherty and husband, Aaron, also of Strunk, Kentucky; grandchildren, Karen Gilreath and husband, Edd, of Strunk, Kentucky, Emily Genoe and husband, Kelly, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, and Rebecca Keith and husband, Kenneth, of Whitley City, Kentucky; and great-grandchildren, Kelcy, Cammie, Amber, Chevy, Tyler, and Kendall.
Serving as pallbearers were Edd Gilreath, Kelly Genoe, Chevy Genoe, Ronnie Wilson, Jason Jones, and Kyle Jones.
Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family of Mrs. Bernice Hamby.
