Betty Irene Shepherd age 86 years, 2 months, and 9 days of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 25, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Shepherd and Pastor Glen Trammell officiating. Burial followed in the Bruce Shepherd Cemetery.
She was born on May 11, 1928 in Bell Farm, Kentucky to Odie Lee Maxwell and Nora (Hill) Maxwell. Irene was a Deaconess at the Stearns Adventist Church. She was very active within the church and enjoyed her church work. Irene also enjoyed her flowers, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death are her parents, daughters, Anna Lou Baumgardner and Carlene Carr, brothers, Floyd, Red, and Johnnie Maxwell, and sisters, Mildred Taylor and Belle Smith.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Shepherd of Stearns, Kentucky; daughters, Sue LaFavor and husband, Danny, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Gilda Long of Stearns, Kentucky; Roger and Linda Tucker, whom Irene considered her children; a sister, Minnie Ross of Revelo, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
