Billy Joe  Perry
Billy Joe Perry, age 71 years 4 months and 23 days, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 23, 2017.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 27, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Perry and Rev. Bill Patrick officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Bill Hale, David Spradlin, Doyle Boone Perry, Tim Perry, Luster Bryant, and Josh Goodin. Burial was in the Eagle Creek Cemetery.
He was born August 31, 1945, in Honeybee, Kentucky to Bruce Perry and Lola Perry. Billy was a retired machinist, having worked with the Chrysler Corporation for over 27 years. Upon his retirement he moved back to Parkers Lake where he operated Perry’s Food Mart and Dairy Freeze for a number of years. Billy loved Bluegrass and Gospel Music. He was the host of his own radio show on WEKC radio in Williamsburg and promoted bluegrass and gospel music events. In his early years, he sang with the group, The Gospel Land Travelers. Always looking for ways to serve his church and community, Billy was a member of both the Eagle-Sawyer and North McCreary volunteer fire departments and was well liked and respected among the other firefighters. He was also a Member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and the Pleasant Knob United Baptist Church. Billy also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 47 years,
Rhoda Sue Perry, an infant child, and sisters, Bessie Perry and Truie Patrick.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Janie Smith Perry, of Parkers Lake, son, Dewayne Perry, and his wife Nancy, of the Eagle Creek Community, daughter, Jennifer Adkins, and her husband, Scott, of Streetsboro, Ohio, his brother, James Matthew Perry and his wife, Betty, of Somerset, step children, Donnie Smith, and his wife Tracy of Pine Knot, Laura Smith, and companion Harvey, of Middlesboro, and Donna Smith of Parkers Lake, and eight grandchildren.
