Coy Ellis New age 86 years, 10 months, and 10 days of Whitley City, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, February 14, 2014 at 1:00 at the Day Ridge Baptist Church with Bro. Allen Coffey and Bro. John Duvall, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Strunk Cemetery.
He was born April 1, 1927 in Dry Fork, McCreary County, Kentucky to Henry New and Louisa (Tucker) New. Coy was a member of the Day Ridge Church for 67 years, joining the church at the age of 19. He enjoyed carpentry work, making ax and other tool handles, as well as cedar tables. Coy also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bee hiving.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, Ima (Hughes) New, daughters, Thelma Owens and Linda Selvidge, brothers, Logan, Jim, Roy, and Luster Sherman New, and sisters, Anna Fay Taylor, Dorothy Tucker, Angie Phillips, Pearlie Clark, Hester Davis, Flona Sexton, Ella Mae Kennedy, Goldie Hughes, and Bethena Keith.
Survivors include his son, Leon New of Whitley City, Kentucky; daughters, Ruth Taylor, Kathy New, both of Whitley City, Kentucky, Lena Owens of Somerset, Kentucky, and Judy Clark and husband, Glen, of Greenwood, Kentucky; a brother, Ralph New and wife, Shirley of Whitley City, Kentucky; 9 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home served the family of Mr. Coy New.
