Darvin Perry, age 83 years, 10 months, and 24 days passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Haynes officiating. Matt Montgomery, Chad Baird, Christopher Frey, Grady Wilson, Mark Perry, and Isaac Baird served as pallbearers. Burial was in the McCreary Memorial Gardens.
He was born February 10, 1933 in Whitley City, Kentucky to Virgil Perry and Hattie Watson Perry. Darvin was a veteran of the US Army and had been a trainmaster for B & O Railroad before his retirement. After retirement, he became a licensed funeral director and was a former employee of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home and McCreary County Funeral Home. Darvin served the community as a member of the McCreary County School Board and was very active in the Whitley City Lions Club where he had served as President, Secretary and District Governor. He was a fifty year Mason, having served as Past Master and Secretary of Orie S. Ware Masonic Lodge and a member of the Laurel Heights Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Darvin was also commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Joanne Perry, a son, Steve Perry, brother, Clifford Perry, and sisters, Linda Vanover and Nora Sumner.
Survivors include his children, Mark Perry and his wife, Allyson, of Centennial, Colorado, Debbie Mongtomery and her husband, Danny, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Denise Baird and her husband, Jeff, of Somerset, Kentucky, grandchildren, Kim, Matthew, Shane, Shelby, Shelley, Nicholas, Chad, and Joshua, great grandchildren, Christopher, Carter, Brayden, Brooke, Blake, Ethan, Samantha, Alex, Brittany, Tyler, Hannah, Kayden, Jonas, Jacob, Isaac, Abigail, Andrew, Jeremiah, Elijah, and Mason, brothers, Starlin Perry and his wife, Della, Carl Perry and his wife, Kathryn, and James Perry, and his wife, Mary, sister, Wanda McCullah and her husband, Ray, brothers-in-law, Darrell Vanover , Ed Sumner and Buddy Wilson, and sisters-in-law, Elsie Perry, Pat Cole, Pam Wilson, and Kathy Wood.
