Edith Stephens age 92 years, 6 months, and 15 days of Whitley City, Kentucky passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at her home. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Whitley City First Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
She was born May 24, 1921 in Stearns, Kentucky to McKinley Perkins and Retta (Ball) Perkins. Edith was a member of the Whitley City First Baptist Church, having taught Sunday school for over 30 years. She was also the church treasurer and of the finance committee. Edith enjoyed serving her church. She graduated High School in 1939 as Valedictorian for her class. Edith later began working for the Bank of McCreary County in 1945 and retired in 1983 after committing 38 years as an officer. She enjoyed traveling and camping and doing crafts such as sewing and crocheting.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Ernest Stephens, a brother, Ronald Perkins, and a sister, June Downs.
Survivors include her daughter, Judi Stephens of Whitley City, Kentucky; a brother, Clifford Perkins of Royal Oak, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
